Model Based Systems Engineering
Prof. Steven Corns. 46 ore, 6 CFU, da svolgersi presso Universitą Estera
Obiettivo
The objective of the course is to provide the student with an understanding of the use of models to represent systems and the underlying system elements, components, etc. Topics include the use of systems modeling language (SysML), research efforts to integrate SysML with other systems engineering tools, and current topics on advancing this new systems engineering research area. For the final project, students are encouraged to apply techniques learned in this course to their area of research.
Competenze attese
This course will assume knowledge of Systems Engineering. The student will gain proficiency in using the systems
modeling language (SysML) and how it can be used to shift systems engineering from a document centric paradigm to one that is model centric.
Programma/Contenuti
Lecture Topics:
1) Course Introduction - Fundamentals
2) SysML Language and Architecture
3) SysML Models and Blocks
4) SysML Parametrics
5) Modeling Flows in SysML
6) Modeling Behaviors
7) Modeling requirements and allocations
8) Building SysML models - Examples with Artisan Software
9) Using SysML in an executable envirnoment
10) Transitioning SysML into systems development environments
11) Transitioning SysML into systems development organizations
12) Current Topics
Metodo didattico
This course will use weekly readings, lecture, a student paper presentation, a final project, and two exams to aid student learning. The class meeting is intended to amplify and extend the reading material, demonstrate concepts using sample problems, and discuss specific issues as a group. Students are responsible for the assigned material whether or not covered explicitly in class. Likewise, students are responsible for all material covered in class, whether or not in the assigned readings, including any guest lecture or student project materials. Students are expected to take initiative to contact the instructor for assistance outside of class.
Strumenti didattici
Each student will have their own educational tools, giving a ratio of one to one. It is assumed that students will have their laptops.
Eventuali metodologie didattiche innovative
Students are encouraged to collaborate with distance students in different parts of the country using online
resources and tools. Class discussions and tutorials on provided SysML software provided for class.
Libri di testo e materiale didattico prodotto nell'ambito del progetto
Systems Engineering with SysML/UML: Modeling, Analysis, Design by Tim Weilkiens.
A Practical Guide to SysML: The Systems Modeling Language by Friedenthal, Moore, and Steiner.
Controllo dell’apprendimento e forme di accertamento del profitto
One major project will be required during the semester. This project requires student or student groups to complete a basic system design using model based tools. Students will review and make a presentation based on a current Model Based Systems Engineering research paper. Exams for the course will be based on lecture material and from the class reading. The final project requires a final project presentation of the results and an evaluation of the results found by other students.
Grading Policy: Range of Grades
